Ben Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA)
I work as a male independent domestic violence advocate, with a passion for helping people and strive to take an empathy-led approach when dealing with any situation.
Previously I worked in sales for 12 years but always felt like I would be doing something more purpose driven; a recent illness of a friend really hammered this point home to me. With my strengths in customer service and dealing with people, transitioning to an IDVA seemed like a great decision.
The male victim space of domestic violence is critically under-reported and under-supported; this is something I hope we can all work towards changing.
Sam Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA)
My name is Sam and I work as a Male IDVA. I took a keen interest in the statistics and representational problems with domestic violence whilst at University and decided to write my dissertation on the representation of male victims of domestic violence.
Through my research I developed a strong comprehension of the issues male victims face and so when a few years later, the role of a Male IDVA with Victim Support was brought to my attention, I knew I would be able to provide a strong level of passion, understanding and interest and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting the opportunity to work with so many service users and see their progress throughout the course of their support.
