Thank you to everyone who has and continues to fund us to carry out our work.  Like most small charities, funding is a continual challenge – please see our latest appeal that is taking a new approach to address this.

Funding sources by year:

2002 – 2005

The YAPP Charitable Trust

3-year grant to cover general running costs. YAPP was one of the first funders to support the early years of Mankind’s service provision.

2002 – 2007

Three Oaks Trust

Along with YAPP the Three Oaks Trust was a major contributor to Mankind’s running costs enabling the provision of therapeutic services. Three Oaks also contributed towards salary costs and the setting up of a training course for professionals on male sexual abuse/assault issues.


Awards For All

This grant enabled Mankind to strengthen its infrastructure through the purchase of new computers and the commissioning of a new client database. The grant also facilitated the creation of a 5-year Business Plan and fundraising strategy.


Lloyds TSB Foundation

This one-off grant covered the rental costs of Mankind’s premises in Newhaven and the creation of our resource library.


The Trusthouse Charitable Foundation

This one off grant covered the costs of refurbishment of our premises to create a resource centre including 3 sound proof counselling rooms and a large group space.

2006 – 2008

The Tudor Trust

This 3-year grant enabled the employment of two staff and the organisations 5-year Business Plan to begin.

2007 – 2009

The Rayne Foundation

Another 3 year grant that will contribute towards the realisation of the 5-year Business Plan and delivery of therapeutic services.

2007 – 2019

The Big Lottery

The Big Lottery has been a major revenue investor in our work, enabling us to research and develop our services.  Their funding has covered a large portion of our core costs whilst supporting the evolution of our services into the present day staged therapeutic programme.

2008 – 2009

The Allen Lane Foundation

2-year grant to pilot our creative therapeutic groups

2009 – 2011

The Tudor Trust

Further contribution to our core costs and salaries.

2011 – 2013

East Sussex County Council

Funding for two ISVA’s (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor)  

2011 – present

Ministry of Justice Male Rape Fund

Contribution to the individual counselling part of our staged therapeutic programme and associated costs

2012 – 2014

Lloyds TSB Foundation

Contribution to core costs – rent, rates & utilities.

2014 – 2017

Comic Relief

Grant to explore specific issues for young men in accessing effective support.

2014 – 2017

The Blagrave Trust

Grant to employ a Young Person’s Engagement Worker.  This role investigated the specific needs of young men who had been sexually abused.

2014 – 2018

The Leathersellers’ Company Charitable Fund

Unrestricted grant that enabled us to commission plays in the Brighton Fringe Festival as part of our public engagement programme.

2015 – 2017

Sussex Police Crime Commissioner – Enhanced Fund

Project based fund to develop ideas around services for young men and delivery of two reports on 3rd party reporting and restorative justice.

2016 – present

NHS Clinical Commissioning Group

Contribution to the individual counselling part of our staged therapeutic programme and associated costs

2017 – present

Lloyds Bank Foundation – Invest Fund

Project funds to develop the clinical group part of our staged therapeutic programme.
